They fought Maleficent and realised the truth from her that, Ansem, a scientist, was the true puppet master orchestrating events in an attempt to gain access to something known as Kingdom Hearts, and hence the title of the game. He is now on the cusp of achieving his ultimate goal. Before Sora can chase Ansem down he attempts to free Kairi whose heart had sought refuge inside of Sora and in the process turns into a heartless himself. With his determination renewed Sora sets off after Ansem to settle the score once and for all. The app will still be downloadable in order to experience the story. Dark Road 's cutscenes lead up to about an hour of story content. KHUX is harder to nail down numbers for, but cutscenes lead to about eight hours of actual main story content.

In all, the main story of Kingdom Hearts leads to hours of playtime, while completionists have about hours of playtime ahead of them. The final playtime is split across three campaigns between Aqua, Terra, and Ventus. That said, worlds are much shorter than a console Kingdom Hearts so completing each campaign, if one is talented enough, only takes ten hours or so.

Extras, of course, will extend that playtime. Chain of Memories features a split campaign between Sora and Riku. Even with that in mind, players can breeze through the game in around nineteen and a half hours. That means there is potentially less need for grinding. Having Kingdom Hearts II be the second to last longest main campaign in the series makes sense. So the gameplay was more fluid, the graphics were better, and overall it was just a bigger adventure.
